Our eco-responsible commitment

Your cooperation is essential !

Let's all act together for a pure, beautiful, clean and welcoming mountain !

Dear guests,

In the heart of our mountains, we consider our environment as a unique asset worthy of protection. Compliance with environmental laws and regulations is a matter of course for us.

The very fragile ecosystem of our emblematic Alpine region (its mountains and valleys, lakes and glaciers, mountain pastures and meadows, springs and rivers...) needs our consideration. In fact, when you come to Châtel Les Portes du Soleil, you are at the heart of nature and surrounded by protected areas of national & international importance where you can find a great variety of plants and animals. All the local tourist actors are mobilizing today for the respect of our environment.

Behind the scenes, our many initiatives play an important role in the overall sustainability experience we aim to offer our guests :

- we make our team of employees aware of sustainable development actions and the economical management of water, energy and waste by motivating and training them so that they operate in the awareness of their responsibility towards the environment. In each specification is written the eco-responsible attitude that we expect from everyone.

- we also invite our customers to be attentive to the reasoned use of the various resources and energies, in order to limit the impact on this nature which we all wish to marvel at as long as possible for our greatest happiness and well-being.

So we pay particular and daily attention to the following points :

WATER
• Water reducers in showers, baths and sinks, manual and controllable mechanism for flushing toilets.
• Recovery of rainwater for the cleaning with water only of the exteriors of the hotel and the watering of flowers.

ELECTRICITY
• All rooms, common areas and places of passage are equipped with LED bulbs or low energy consumption.
• Timers installed in passageways/stairways and less frequented areas.
• Motion detectors are in place at the entrance.
• The hotel has many openings to let in as much natural light as possible.

HEATER
• Heating adapted to temperature variations.
• Automated “day-night” setting.
• Rooms not rented are not heated.
• The radiators are normally set to thermostat 3.

WASTE MANAGEMENT
• Waste sorting and disposal according to ecological principles of recycling. The proximity of the municipal separate waste containers allows us to transport the bins using a simple wheeled trolley.
• Recycling bins in the hotel entrance hall and municipal separate waste containers near the hotel are available to guests.
• Composter for the recycling of natural waste in order to ecologically enrich the gardening of our vegetable garden and the hotel's flowers.

CLEANING
• We use environmentally friendly detergents and cleaning products as much as possible. Emphasis is placed on the professional use of cleaning products.
• In the laundry room we favor as much as possible the washing of linen at 30° or with short cycles.
• We give a second life to the hotel's various linens, parasol covers, etc.

BEDROOM/BATHROOM
• The linen in the rooms is changed only on request in order to allow a significant reduction in detergents and also to limit the rotations of the laundry trucks.
• Provision of reusable cups in the bathrooms instead of disposable cups.
• Bath amenities placed in the basket near the washbasin are also chosen eco-label.

CATERING
• We favor electronic communication as well as cooperation with regional suppliers and group orders in order to avoid numerous delivery transports.
• On the breakfast buffet, regional products are specifically identified.
• Fruits and vegetables are purchased according to seasonal supply to favor regional suppliers.
• We make our own compost to provide fertilizer for our summer vegetable garden and our flower garden.
• We give dry bread to farmers for their animals.
• We favor cloth napkins, washable and reusable.

RECEPTION DESK
• Preferred printing on eco-label paper.

SWIMMING POOL
• Precise dosage of the quantity of products required for water treatment with the automatic analysis system.
• Resonable lowering of the swimming pool water heating temperature in order to limit its evaporation, control the consumption of treatment chemicals and the operation of the dehumidification heat pump.

TRAVEL/MOBILITY
• No need to use your car during your stay. Châtel favors soft mobility in order to preserve a privileged but fragile environment. Everything has been thought out so that everyone can freely walking, biking and use shuttles or little train..
Also, to facilitate travel in the resort throughout the seasons, we encourage our guets to leave their vehicle parked in our free car park in order to make full use of the bus lines made available to them free of charge. And in order to reduce the impact on the natural environment, Châtel has been betting for a few years to test and put into service two space-saving hybrid and electric shuttles providing a link with the heart of the village and the aquatic leisure area.
There is a stop in front of the hotel with regular and continuous rotations. Then two evening shuttles take over until 22:00. A last night shuttle runs three days a week until 23:30.
In season, a regular connection between resorts serves the Vallée d'Abondance.
And from the church place, the little sightseeing train is a great way of getting around the village and different districts.
On more than 16 km along the river, the Chemin des Bords de Dranse is ideal for walking or biking to join easily Abondance.

LIVING AREAS
• In accordance with French anti-smoking regulations, the entire hotel is non-smoking.

SUMMER FLOWERING
• On the terraces, green spaces and our garden, we favor annuals which thus take their place in a simple alternation of colors and flowers, in keeping with the identity of the place and the grandiose surrounding alpine landscape.
The mowing of green spaces is controlled in order to preserve a certain humidity and natural fertilization of the soil. The plant thus retains its bright colors and its growth is regular. The edible herbs are then renewed more generously to then take their place sympathetically on plates during the meals.

INVESTMENTS
• In order to comply with everyone's environmental charters and concerns, we are gradually committing to an eco-responsible approach : as soon as it is built, the hotel meets thermal insulation standards and little by little, equipment is replaced by materials new generation respectful of water and energy.

ECO-RESPONSIBILITY
F or the preservation of our environment and its sustainable development, we also invite our guests to adopt without constraint daily eco-gestures in order to control the consumption of energy, water and waste :
• Please, turn off TV standby mode after use.
• Please, turn off the lights in the bedroom and bathroom you are leaving.
• Please, lower thermostatic radiator valves when opening doors and windows in cold weather.
• Please, pay attention to wasting your water consumption. The toilets are equipped with water flow reducers and you can manually control the toilet flushing mechanism.
• Please, act for a reasoned use of the different linens of toilets in order to allow a significant reduction of the detergents and thus to slow down the rotations in coming and going of the laundry trucks.
• Please, respect the selective sorting of newspapers, plastic and glass bottles, used batteries, etc. (we thank you for leaving this waste next to the basket in order to facilitate cleaning).
• Please, feel free to use recycling bins in the hotel entrance hall and the municipal separate waste containers located near the hotel.
• Please, report any anomaly or malfunction whatsoever.
• Please, feel free to ask us to carry out a less regular cleaning of your room.

We prefer to display about 10 provisions that we can respect and make our customers understand, rather than having a label with 1000 requirements that no one will ever consult and will not be able to implement !

From the Environmental Charter registered in the official journal of 02 March 2005 :
- Article 1. Everyone has the right to live in a balanced and healthy environment.
- Article 2. Everyone has the duty to take part in the preservation and improvement of the environment.
- Article 3. All persons must, under the conditions defined by law, prevent the damage they are likely to cause to the environment or, failing that, limit the consequences.

We thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.
